So today I made my grandma's shirt to wear to announce to my aunt's family in California when she goes home on Monday. Isn't it cute?

Also... I went out for dinner at the food court with DH. I dragged him into the maternity store here (Thyme maternity) and showed him some of the clothes with the fake belly underneath. I left the store with 1 black pair of mat pants, 1 brown pair of mat pants and a POSSIBLE JOB!

I'm going to drop my resume off on Monday and talk to the manager again. I guess I was memorable enough from when I visited with my mom a few weeks ago. She remembered me and DH was bs-ing about how I should just get a job there since I'm always there (3rd time in like 2 weeks) and she said that they actually are looking for someone!

Best parts ever....
- DH said I can spend everything I make on clothes there!
- Found this info on discounts online (might not be accurate cuz it's from 2008)

Thyme Maternity ( Reitmans corp) Offered 50% in thyme, and since it was maternity you got to pick another division of reitmans to have a 50% off discount in, so either Rietmans, Smart Set, Addition Elle, Pennigtons or RW. All of the other stores you didn't pick your 50% off in you got 30% off.( I think it was)

So freaking excited!

Uh oh, I hope I don't get cut off!

left: 3 happy heinys pockets, furthest back: made of hemp
middle: yellow xs thirsties cover, NB white bummis, small green patterned bummis
right: thirsties xs (pocket/aio?), bamboo fitted

$50 total. DH thought it was $20 for some reason... Gotta curb the diaper spending otherwise DH might cut me off.

Update on PP about stalking swaps:
- the 42 MF inserts are mine for $10 and I'll get them on wed/thurs
- peanut shell sling I scratched. the seller wasn't helpful
- kissaluvs size 0 + covers + other dipes I haven't heard back from yet. I sent her a 2nd message today

Come on people, have some sense!

Why do so many people try and sell their used breast pumps? It's disgusting. Here's a page on which pumps are safe to get second hand and why.

Gross! They're not that expensive. Save yourself the HIV and just buy a new pump. If you even get a second hand safe pump, you need to buy all new tubing anyways. The pump I'm getting is this one and it's just over $100 new:

Diaper crazy

I've been perusing our CL site as well as facebook and babycenter's diaper swaps.

So I have emails/notes out to the owners of:
- 1 xs thirties cover & 1 bummis super brite small cover ($5 each)
- 1 thirsties xs aio & 1 bamboo fitted (nb size I think) (either $5 or $10 each)
- 42 microfiber inserts ($10)
- 1 LG peanut shell sling ($15)
- 10 kissaluv size 0 fitteds, 2 swaddlebees, 4 xs happy heiny pockets, 9 nb/xs covers ($55)

Ooooh I want that last lot SOOOO badly. I think I was the 2nd person to ask about it but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Please keep yours crossed with me!

So I'm really not sure what baby moving is supposed to feel like right now. I felt what feels like a roll at the front of my belly where baby is. I keep feeling it but I'm not sure that it's baby but it feels VERY different than gas bubbles moving. I'm doubt, now, that it's actually movement but it's definitely nothing I've ever felt before.

Twenty days until we get to see baby again! I'm so relieved that we can find the HB regularily. There will be no nerves before Dr. appointments and ultrasounds now :)

Wiggleworm was moving away from the doppler last night. It was really funny to hear the HB disappear! Baby really is a wiggleworm.

14 weeks

Second trimester officially by all standards (I think). That's really exciting for me. I didn't feel all that different this week. Definitely didn't wear the sea bands as much and less gagging. The extreme hunger that makes me nauseous seems to have faded a lot over a few weeks.

I feel so far behind the rest of my facebook sept 2012 moms. I'm 3 weeks behind those at the beginning of the month. At this point, 3 weeks makes a lot of difference. Those moms, FTMs or not, are feeling kicks and flutters. I can't wait for it. I've still only felt the one twitch that I think was the baby.

Baby's heartbeat is still about the same and DH never fails to find it :) I told him at our next Dr. appointment he needs to tell the Dr. where the HB is... haha! Three weeks and one day until our anatomy u/s!

How your baby's growing:

This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.

In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

Welcome to your second trimester! Your energy is likely returning, your breasts may be feeling less tender, and your queasiness may have completely abated by now. If not, hang on — chances are good it will soon be behind you (although an unlucky few will still feel nauseated months from now).

The top of your uterus is a bit above your pubic bone, which may be enough to push your tummy out a tad. Starting to show can be quite a thrill, giving you and your partner visible evidence of the baby you've been waiting for. Take some time to plan, daydream, and enjoy this amazing time. It's normal to worry a bit now and then, but try to focus on taking care of yourself and your baby, and having faith that you're well equipped for what's ahead.

The things my nightmares are made of

My dad left the gate to the backyard open yesterday when DH and I were out (we rent their basement suite). Their dog, Barney, got out but thankfully Elvis was with my dad the whole time. Dad closed the gate and realized he hadn't seen Barney in a while. Barney had gotten out and had been out for a half hour. He stayed close to the house in the front yard thankfully for them.

Last time Elvis got out of the house without us watching him closely, he booked it out into the street and almost got hit by a car. I can't stop thinking about the gate. I'm debating locking it closed on my dad while we're gone for 2 days. I'm really freaking out. I would just... well, I don't know what I'd do if Elvis got killed by a car or lost.

I wish I knew what he would do. I wish he could understand me. These emotions are really getting the better of me. I want to stop worrying but Elvis is my baby and one of the most important things in my life.

Grandma is here and random ramblings

She was out of it after coming off the plane so she didn't look at my shirt even until after she hugged me. But she said that for some reason she was hoping I would be and my aunt's family was asking her if she thought I was pregnant... weird. She was coming for a regular visit, not one I asked her to come for or anything and they all were hoping I would announce I was pregnant?

Anyways after she said that, she jumped up and down like an excited little girl. So funny!

She said the last stocking she'll make for our family will be for this baby, her first great grandchild. We all have matching stockings with santa in a chimney and a moon on the back and our names at the top. She thinks she'll be able to have it made by christmas for this baby even if she starts in september. I'm not sure that she'll want to have it made by christmas considering DH's stocking is just being made now and it's been 2 years almost (but 2 christmases married). There was a lot going on right after we got married though so it doesn't bother me. It wouldn't bother me either to have someone else make the stocking for our baby anyways...

Ooooh I was DROOOOOOLING over oshkosh's baby girl clothes at costco today! I'll dump em in dropbox off my phone and post em here as soon as they show up.. so cute! It's taking forever so you might have to come back and check later. Edit: here they are! The yellow one is carter's technically but it's so cute! They're all two piece except the carter's. They all have a onesie underneath and then the overall looking part

Top left: romper Top right: shorts
Bottom left: carter's onesie with skirt thingy in front Bottom right: overall skirt

So totally stoked to be in the 2nd trimester. I'm officially 3 months and 4 days pregnant (assuming day 1 of being pregnant, aka AF if she was regular, would have been Dec 19th).

Going to see the Hunger Games on Sunday at 4pm. I'd have loved to do a Friday night (tonight) or Thursday 12am showing but I just couldn't make DH do that when he had to work the next day. So we'll see it at 4pm with my grandma and mom and dad.

Baby has wall decals! for $9 each! Such a great deal since all the ones are soooo expensive!

13 weeks

Considering myself 2nd trimester starting this week even though not all sites do. By next week though, I'll definitely be there anyways. We're still finding baby's HB on our doppler nightly and it's great relief to me to be able to find it on a regular basis.

Yesterday I swear I felt my first movement. It felt like a muscle twitch right where the HB always is found with the doppler. I was sitting hunched over at a booth waiting for breakfast. I'm pretty sure that was baby. It definitely wasn't gas lol.

How your baby's growing:

Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you're having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce.

How your life's changing: This is the last week of your first trimester, and your risk of miscarriage is now much lower than earlier in pregnancy. Next week marks the beginning of your second trimester, a time of relative comfort for many women who see early pregnancy symptoms such as morning sickness and fatigue subside. More good news: Many couples also notice a distinct libido lift around this time. Birth is still months away, but your breasts may have already started making colostrum, the nutrient-rich fluid that feeds your baby for the first few days after birth, before your milk starts to flow.

Sticker Pictures: 12 Weeks

Seeming a little bit rounder than week 8!

Baby has a change table/dresser!

Plus I bought some diaper covers this morning. Too good of a deal to pass up at $4.20 each. Shh, don't tell my husband... Well, he wouldn't be upset anyways the baby has money to spend on things like this anyways.

Saturday, 17 March 2012

I found my other sea band this morning when I put the dog outside. It was right next to the garbage can and was dry (which is amazing considering all the water in this city).

First diapers!!

Here's my diaper stash so far. It's pathetic I know...
- 2 kushies diaper covers ($3 each)
- 4 kushies classic AIO diapers ($2 each)
- 1 kushies ultra AIO diaper ($2)

So 5 diapers and 2 covers for $16. Not a bad start.

Diaper/Messenger Bag Giveaway

Click here to go to Elena's blog The Art of Making a Baby to enter to win in another giveaway!

Lost and hope to find...

I lost one of my sea bands today. I'm really upset because I know it's somewhere in the house. I took them off before starting to try to do dishes and I put them in my pocket but there was only one in my pocket when went looking for them.

I hope my nausea stays away because idk what to do if it doesn't.... I don't know where to buy sea bands here. I bought this pair in Portland a year ago.

Do you see it?

Aside from the fact that the zoom is different can you see a belly starting?

Buying my first diapers this weekend! I found 5 kushies diapers on our CL like site for $10 total as well as 2 wraps for $3 each. Five diapers and 2 wraps for $16 total. I'm excited.

What say you guys?

I'm "coming out" to work after my 17w1d ultrasound.
I won't be working with my student next year.
I think he deserves to know with the rest of the staff for these reasons.

I'll post on facebook that night and his mom is on my facebook. I don't know if she can keep the secret.
My friend M's little sister is in grade 7 in the same school and I don't know if she'll talk but I told M she can tell her sisters after I tell the staff.
I won't be working with him and there's nosy ladies who will be all "who's working with him next year".
The ones who will actually be working with him next year will probably find out around the same time and I don't trust them not to stop him in the hall and talk to him about them working with him next year.

So that's M's sister, the 2 staff that will work with him, his mom and numerous other staff who might tell him or talk to me when he's in earshot that have the opportunity to blab to him if I don't tell him right away.

Also, when would you tell those family members on facebook. They don't deserve to find out with the rest of the world when I post it on facebook... but at the same time, I'd love for them to just find out then because the more people that know before, the more people that can say something obvious on my subtle facebook messages.

Tales from the Doppler

Yesterday: DH found baby and all. It was a faded HB for a while and we were talking about the baby and DH was calling the baby a "he". Then the HB got stronger and he calls baby a show off lol. So he passed the doppler to me and I tried. Couldn't find it. So he finds it and hands the doppler to me while it's already got the baby on it. Baby moves and HB disappears (or I suck at finding it). Then DH gets it back and it stays strong. So I told him, see it's a girl. She's a daddy's girl. :)

Today: Similar to yesterday except baby kept moving slightly away from the doppler. Finally we got him/her pinned down and it was nice and strong!

Maternity Clothes

So far I've spent about $35 on maternity clothes and I have:
- one pair full panel shorts
- one pair mid rise (uncomfy for now) jeans (bought for last pregnancy)
- two cream 3/4 sleeve shirts (one for my "Does this baby make me look fat?" announcement shirt)
- one white t-shirt
- one organic cotton maternity/nursing shirt (free from a blog giveaway)
- two 3/4 sleeve work shirts (one black/white patterned and the other brown/tan patterned)

My yoga pants will probably fit over/under the belly the whole pregnancy as well... lululemon ftw!

12 weeks

The beginning of the "am I first or second trimester" period. By next week I'll consider myself 2nd trimester even though this period ends at the end of week 14 I think.

Nausea has been pretty intense lately. If I'm not eating, I'm nauseous (while at home).

How your baby's growing:

The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.

Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.

Your uterus has grown to the point where your healthcare provider can now feel the top of it (the fundus) low in your abdomen, just above your pubic bone. You may already be into maternity clothes, especially if this isn't your first pregnancy. If you're still fairly small and not yet ready for maternity clothes, you've no doubt noticed that your waist is thickening and that you're more comfortable in loose, less restrictive clothing.

You may begin to feel heartburn (also called acid indigestion), a burning sensation that often extends from the bottom of your breastbone to your lower throat. Many women get heartburn for the first time during pregnancy, and those who've previously had bouts of heartburn may find that it gets worse. During pregnancy, the placenta produces a lot of the hormone progesterone, which relaxes the valve that separates the esophagus from the stomach. Particularly when you're lying down, gastric acid can seep back up the pipe, which causes the uncomfortable burning sensation. For many women the problem doesn't begin (or get worse) until later in pregnancy, when your growing uterus starts to push up on your stomach. The discomfort may range from mildly annoying to intense and distracting.

Baby has bedding!

Yessiree! The baby has bedding. At 25% off of $130 it came to $107 including tax or $96 before tax. So excited and couldn't pass up this deal.

Only 2.5 more work days until spring break.

Taking Elvis in to the vet this week hopefully. He has a cut in his ear (I just figured out what was bugging him after checking a few times and not noticing...) and I want it looked at since he's such a small dog it worries me to use rubbing alcohol like my dad used to dump in our cocker spaniel's ears. He's overdue for a few shots and deworming and such too do it's just time for it.

Change of Plans

I spent days perusing's baby registry looking at duck things for our rubber duck nursery. We had a sheet set picked out (with dots in lots of colours). There are not a lot of duck things that aren't for the bathroom. So, I got pissed off and talked to hubby about changing our theme. I'm so much happier with this theme now...

Wait for it....

Here's our bedding we'll probably get on Sunday. It's 25% off ($30 off) until mid next week or something and I just can't pass it up.

It's a bumper free set from Skip Hop, called the complete sheet set. Now, the reason it's different from any other sheet set is because there's a pattern on top of the fitted sheet and a different one on the side. It makes the crib look complete without bumpers because of the controversy of bumpers and suffocation.

Now we'll probably have our change table and crib in that neutral unpainted wood colour which I like. We'll get our crib and changer from IKEA (really cheap!) until a recall because of screw length, the crib always had great reviews. We'll just make sure the screw length is the right size. We'll be getting the crib/changer at the end of March for under $150 total because we're headed over right where IKEA is for a few days anyways. That will save us a $100 round trip car drive or $80 to take the bus there. We probably won't get the mattress there but we will be mostly ready for baby at that point :) (as far as necessities go).

We'll inherit a gently used car seat unless someone buys us a new one. I know where and how that car seat has been used by our friends so there's no issues there. And beyond that, everything else is just wants and things that will make life easier.

So here are a bunch of pictures of the items that I dumped on our registry for the nursery!

Carter's lamp and valance (skip hop didn't make any)

Carter's hamper and mobile

2 picture frames

Breathable bumpers and changing pad cover

Humidifier and boppy

Glider and "piggy" bank

Itzbeen and curtain ties

(for older) Blanket/Pillow/Stuffy and rocking elephant

So as you can see, our colours are blue, green, brown and the occasional grey elephant :)
